Home automation in the Madison, AL area is the new buzzword among the tech crowd, and the unlikely “first step” for many will be with a smart thermostat!
Not all thermostats are created equal.
We have installed, tested and reviewed more thermostats than we care to count, and although it was a close call, we have landed on the Ecobee as the winner.
No registration required, a 5 year warranty comes with your thermostat when purchased through and installed by L&F Services LLC.
What’s so smart about it?
To start, it’s a programmable thermostat that’s easy to program. If you don’t want a program on it, the program feature is easy to disable.
It can use your phones location to know if you’re home, and save you money by automatically setting itself to “away” when you leave, then back to comfort settings before you even get home.
It has Alexa built in, so it can operate by voice commands. It can set alarms, set timers, tell you the weather, traffic, play your favorite music, control some smart tv’s, or even tell you a joke! A step further, it even monitor your HVAC system’s energy usage, and generate reports up to 18 months!
Ok, so what else?
There is another awesome trick up it’s sleeve, and it’s called SmartSensor.
Let’s suppose your bedroom is always hotter than the rest of the house, but because the thermostat isn’t in your bedroom, it has no idea that you are uncomfortable. That means that your bedroom will stay hot until the rest of the house warms up enough to kick on your air conditioning system. With the SmartSensor in your bedroom, it will notify the thermostat that your bedroom is outside of your comfort setting, and bring on the air to keep your whole home comfortable.
Even better, the SmartSensor can detect if you are in the room or not, and ignore the warmer temperature unless you are actually in the bedroom. That way, you only use the air when you need it.
More than just a pretty face.
There is way too much to list on the other things these thermostats can do, but the last one I’ll cover is the cost savings. The average home in our coverage area has an electric bill that is 65% made up of the HVAC energy. So if your monthly electric bill is $165.oo as an average home, the Heating and Cooling cost was about $107 of that.
The Ecobee claims to be able to reduce that $107 portion to as low as $81.00, meaning the potential for the example $165.00 electric bill to drop to $139.00. That scenario is a savings of $312.00 a year!
Of course, results will vary. Factors like ceiling height, age of home, insulation in the attic comfort settings, and even trees in the yard all have an impact on your electrical usage, but these are attainable numbers.
