It’s getting colder…Is your natural gas furnace working?

Here is the shortlist of symptoms telling you that something is wrong:

• keeps running
• keeps going out
• keeps turning on and off
• leaking water
• making buzzing noise
• knocking sound
• no sound / very quiet
• sounds like a jet engine
• yellow flame instead of blue
• not all burners burning
• pilot light out.

Why is this happening?  Another shortlist:

• igniter or electronic ignition has failed
• fan motor failed or failing
• thermocouple failure
• thermostat wiring shorted or broken
• control board failure
• exhaust pipe damaged or disconnected
• exhaust vent cap damaged, missing or plugged
• flame sensor failure
